The places that stay with us

THE CREATIVE POST · NO. 01

A few days ago, I picked up my sketchbook after not drawing for a little while.

Part of me felt like I should make something good.

Something that justified starting again.

Instead, I painted some bees I'd seen amongst soft purple flowers in a photograph a few days earlier.

Nothing ambitious. Just an image that had stayed in my head.

And it reminded me that starting again doesn't have to be a big event.

We put so much pressure on ourselves when we've stopped doing something we love.

The abandoned book.

The garden we haven't touched.

The sketchbook that's been sitting unopened.

The walks we stopped taking.

We think we need motivation, a plan or a fresh Monday morning.

Perhaps sometimes we just need to begin badly, quietly, for ten minutes.

You don't have to make a big comeback. You just have to come back.

Is there something you've been meaning to return to?
